Math

We will not move on to any new math skills until next week but please review the following:

  • Review addition and subtraction facts 0-20

  • Skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's to 120

  • Mental math: ten more/ten less of a given number

  • One more/one less of a given number

*These are a few skills that are expected to be mastered by the end of the 4th quarter. Getting a start on now will help your child immensely.

  • Monday, March 23rd: Listen to story (on Youtube below), complete Day 1 in work packet (visualize)

  • Tuesday, March 24th: Listen to story again, complete Day 2 in work packet (connection)

  • Wednesday, March 25th: Listen to story (optional), complete Day 3 in work packet (infer)

  • Thursday, March 26th: Listen to story (optional), complete Day 4 in work packet (author's message)

  • Friday ,March 27th: Listen to story (optional), complete Day 5 in work packet (opinion)

Writing

  • Informative: Watch the video about ants below. Use the informative writing template in the packet to write an introduction, facts, and a conclusion. Use EPIC to research other books on ants (class code: qyt2310). I will add non-fiction books about ants and they will be in your child's EPIC mailbox. 

  • Write me a letter and I'll respond- all you need to do is take a picture of it and email or send me a message in Remind. Don't forget a letter has 4 parts to it: date, opening, body and closing

Write Reader

Additional Writing Option: Below you will find a link for a FREE resource called Write Reader. Students started learning how to create books online and they enjoy using this format.

 

You can login here: https://app.writereader.com/login.

 

The class code is rdv1 and the username is child's first name (first letter uppercase).

Students can use Write Reader to create their informative writing (or use the informative paper provided in the packet). They can also research another topic and write create additional books. This may require some guidance.

I should be able to view all books as students work on them! I can't wait to see them!

Guided Reading

I highly encourage you sign up for a free trial (30 days) of EPIC. The site has thousands of books that are fun and engaging. I often put collections of books in student mailboxes on EPIC that they can read or do “research” on. EPIC also has a DRA tab that has leveled books so students are reading books at their independent or instructional level. Please let me know if you would like your child’s reading level. Below you will find reading strategies that your child should be using as they read. When they finish reading, have your child retell the stories and ask questions about it. If it’s a non-fiction book, have them share facts that they have learned. In the documents section above, I have included reading response sheets that can be used to build comprehension skills. 

When you sign up enter class code: qyt2310, click on your child's name, & sign up for the 30 day free trial. This will connect their school account to your home account.
